Suite of EPA GHG & Energy ToolsThis link includes the ReCon, WARM & DGC tools developed by EPA. The ReCon tool calculates GHG & energy impacts from purchasing products with recycled content. The WARM tool is targeted toward waste managers and reflects the GHG and energy impacts of their decisions on end of life scenarios for different materials. The Durable Goods Calculator is similar to WARM but focuses on disposal of white goods (e.g., refrigerators). There is also a GHG equivalence calculator on this page, however there are significant criticisms of its methodology from the current carbon accounting debates. While I am sympathetic to its simplicity, I question its scientific validity. I think we will find with all of these tools that the limiting factor is the data that drives them.
